Ryou Mon
Appearance: A palm-sized disk of petrified wood that bears the mark of the family, with a spiral, or series of concentric circles bisected by a simple spear.
Location Found: Taken from what I believe to be a high ranking Ryou ninja
Function: The Mon seems to empower the user by amplifying existing abilities to near superhuman levels. This can range from incredible strength to increasing one's ability to move stealthily.
Cost: Using the Mon exhausts the person operating it, and overuse can be completely debilitating.
Additional Notes: The Mon must be touching the person using it to be activated.
Using the Mon causes inky black veins to spread from the source of contact.
Activating the Mon requires will and intent to operate, for example, ‘I want to move stealthily to that point’ is the thought required to initiate such an ability.
The Mon cannot manifest elemental abilities akin to those djinn-blooded individuals, it can however heavily augment the powers already present.
The Mon cannot be used by two people at the same time and trying to do so will instinctively anger the person whose will is denied.
People using the Mon have seen strange visions, Mesi and myself have at multiple times seen a dark-cloaked figure during times of exhaustion, and Captain Sitara has seen some kind of sea witch.
Personal Notes: The Ryou captain that possessed the Mon previously seemed superhuman, with pitch-black eyes and apparent disregard for his own life, it is a sight that still troubles me.
An element that I was unable to fully test is if killing creatures while under the influence of the Mon was enough to negate the natural exhaustion caused by using it. When Mesi saved Captain Sitara from the Wight Whale near Vargarstaad, Mesi claimed to not feel any exhaustion after the fact… Further tests on Skenden wildlife were inconclusive.
I tried endlessly to discover the secrets of the Mon, much to the detriment of my own health and those around me. At the time of writing this, the Mon has been stolen by someone in Rhakosis. Attempts to locate them and the sage that was taken with the Mon have failed and Viz Leany departs soon. A part of me wishes to continue exploring the artifact, but I fear the lengths that I would go to in an attempt to pry open its secrets… Maybe this is for the best.
